#whilewewatch Part II - Occupy Wall Street Marches On

#whilewewatch Part II - Occupy Wall Street Marches On

Part I of #whilewewatch recorded the events that started on September 17, 2011 but since the movement continues, so does the documentary. As the one year anniversary of Occupy Wall Street nears, the grievances of the occupiers continue to go unanswered. We are looking to conduct follow-up interviews with OWS activists Priscilla Grim, Jesse LaGreca, Tim Pool, and Justin Wedes as well as interview prominent members of the community such as Cornel West, Tom Morello, Tom Brokaw, Pete Hamill, and Ben Cohen.

To do this, we need YOUR help to cover traveling costs, film equipment, crew, eight weeks of editing, legal expenses, music rights, social media, and mainstream media file footage. We have been be filming in New York up until the movement’s one year anniversary.

#whilewewatch

#whilewewatch

A gripping portrait of the “Occupy Wall Street” media revolution, #whilewewatch is the first definitive film to emerge from Zuccotti Park – with full access and cooperation from masterminds who made #OccupyWallStreet a reality.

The #OccupyWallStreet media team had no fear of a critical city government, big corporations, hostile police, or a lagging mainstream media to tell their story.  Through rain, snow, grueling days, sleeping on concrete; they pump out exhilarating ideas to the world.  Fueled with little money, they rely on the power of Twitter, texting, Wi-Fi, posters, Tumblr, live streams, YouTube, Facebook, dramatic marches, drumbeats and chants. As the film unfolds, we witness a new dawn with the power of social media.

Navigating the Future of Communications

On behalf of Edelman, Media X @ Stanford University, and PR Week, we want to welcome you to the 2012 Academic Summit at Stanford, in Palo Alto, California. This year's theme - "When All Media Is Social: Navigating the Future of Communications" - is especially fitting, given our choice to host the summit in the heart of Silicon Valley.

As with our previous Summits, we'll convene academic leaders in the fields of public relations, journalism, business and marketing communications to learn from corporate executives, brand marketers and digital and media thought leaders. Above all, the Academic Summit is a forum for discussion. Participants will gain a wealth of knowledge that can be immediately incorporated into course curricula, and a greater understanding of the skills students need in order to pursue a successful communications career today.

The 2012 Summit - our first on the west coast - promises to be an extraordinary event, with robust content and plenty of special guests and opportunities. You'll hear from the world's leading technology and social media companies, who are fundamentally shaping how information is created, consumed and shared, and transforming entire industries along the way.

We'll share detailed updates about speakers and content in the weeks ahead, and you can also follow our updates on Twitter via #2012AcademicSummit. The 2012 Academic Summit will begin on Wednesday, June 20th at 1pm, and conclude on Friday June 22nd at 1pm. We'll be staying at the Stanford Park Hotel, about a mile from campus.

#whilewewatch is a gripping look at the media revolution that emerged from Zuccoti Park in New York City to the world. It is the story of how many people came together in the sun and rain, day and night, broke and loaded with energy and hope to get their story out to the world. #OWS has galvanized the world. #whilewewatch is the real inside story of great people who have no fear. They don’t back down from the police, big business or a city government that tried to dismiss them. When regular media paid no attention to this movement they decided to tell the world their story.

#whilewewatch is the real experience of what democracy looks like. We hear it from their voices, pain, energy and honesty.

Since The Premiere of #whilewewatch at The Paley Center for Media in New York City, #whilewewatch has screened at various counter culture locations around the US.

#whilewewatch and The #OccupyWallSt Media Team members from the film have journeyed to cafe's around the country setting off on an exuberant roadtrip. Jesse LaGreca, Justin Wedes, Tim Pool, Lorenzo Serna and Luke Rudkowski hopped in a van in NYC drove to Frankfort KY and brought #whilewewatch to The Kentucky CoffeeTree Cafe for 3 back to back screenings in one evening, with livestreamed panel from guest streamer Elizabeth Arce [ @occupymusician ] and #OccuppyWallSt media team member Johanna Grube.

Simultaneously,
Garett Sergeant, #whilewewatch editor, brought the film to UnUrban Cafe in Venice Beach Ca. Guest Livestreamer, Freedom [ @OccupyFreedomLA ] graciously streamed the event for us! And this was only the beginning!

The #OccupyCafe team @whilewewatch began receiving Tweets from all over the country asking us to come to their town with #whilewewatch. We listened!
Next stop brought #OccupyCafe to Louisville, KY for a lunchtime screening and panel discussion where we received a warm homemade #whilewewatch welcome at the apropos cafe Solidarity.

Moving on the same day to Dayton.Ohio the #OccupyCafe team made some noise!Jesse LaGreca was aired by FOXNEWS affiliate ABC22 OCCUPY PROTESTERS HOPING TO SPREAD MESSAGE NATIONWIDE .

Jesse's original viral video interview,"Fox News Gets Out Foxed!"[Original Footage from Kyle Christopher] from Zuccotti Park was never aired by FOXNEWS. yet was picked up by MSNBC, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert all picked it up!

#OccupyCafe continued roadtrippin'! Why stop there? Next stop #OccupyDetroit to screen at the famous Detroit Cafe 1515 Broadway,  where they had yet another warm welcome, screened #whilewewatch and livestreamed the panel discussion.

Director of #whilewewatch, will be joining via live stream.

"I care about the person on the other side of the lens and never underestimate their importance."
- Kevin Breslin, Director, #whilewewatch

Director Kevin Breslin's recent documentary "Living for 32" is the inspirational story of Colin Goddard, a survivor of the tragic gun shooting massacre which occurred on the Virginia Tech campus, April 16th, 2007. "Living for 32", Colin shares with Mr. Breslin his intimate account of terror he and his classmates endured and the courageous journey of renewal and hope he chose to pursue. The film was shortlisted for an academy award in 2011. It is a Showtime film and BBC film internationally.

Kevin's first short film, "A Smile Gone, but Where?" was shown at film festivals throughout the world. It premiered on the Oxygen Network along with Breslin's second short film, "Women of Rockaway", which won the 2003 Gracie Allen Award for best TV documentary. Other television credits include Heartbreakers, an Oxygen exclusive television show. Kevin co-created as well as directed and produced a series of PSA's for the "Made in New York" campaign, for which he won a New York City Film and Television Award in 2007. The PSA's featured Will Smith, Debra Messing, Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Ed Burns, and Rachel Ray.

Other recent works include an "Exclusive XMen3 Confessional" with director Brett Ratner for Mercedes, a featurette for The Boys' and Girls' Club of America featuring President Bill Clinton.

Current commercials Kevin has directed include the Chevy Silverado "This is Our Country" campaign, PGA, IBM, The Seminole Hard Rock brand, Guinness and the Brady Anti-Gun Campaign. Kevin also directed and co-directed the Sprint campaign featuring Sprint CEO Dan Hesse that was shot throughout New York City, presenting the city in stunning black-and-white cinematography.

Current documentaries include "The Other Side of the Street", a story about the life of Jimmy Breslin and newspapers in New York City. "New York Vertical" with award acclaimed German photographer Horst Hamann, based on his book of the same title. Kevin just completed " Always The Children." An educational film highlighting the skills of a great educator and humanitarian, Richard Soghoian at Columbia Grammar School. in New York.

Kevin's work as a director has proven that he is as comfortable shooting real people as he is actors. He is currently in pre-production on a feature film, "The Teddy Bear Habit", based on the award-winning children's book

We will be joined by activists of the Occupy Wall Street movement, including:

Occupy Sundance has absolutely no interest in disrupting the festival, rather we intend to augment and celebrate it.  The fact is, Sundance can't possibly screen 11,000+ films...But here's where we can.

Filmmakers, bring your completed films on DVD (min of 10 copies recommended) for the portable DVD players provided to the patrons of Cisero's Ristorante & Good Times Bar.  We are going to draw up a "menu" of films customers can chose from and voila, the media hungry industry insiders, festival goers, fello filmmakers and excited locals can satiate their film appetites while you the filmmaker gets to have your film seen...And just possibly by someone who can make a difference for you.

There will also be an opportunity for audiences to view your film on the large in-house projection screen.

The #OccupyWallStreet movement has generated a whole new brand of interactive, participatory media, most notably livestreaming news from Zuccotti Park to the world. Kevin Breslin’s riveting documentary captures this media revolution at its conception, showing how cellphones affixed to laptops can create global social change. We witness the OWS media team taking on city government, big corporations, and police to get their vital message out. As director Breslin notes “Zuccotti Park was loud, dirty, wet, cold and exhilaratingly alive with passion and energy. Intelligence, imagination, information and raw motion ruled every second!” Breslin’s film is a transfixing testament to that insurgent spirit. Key members of the #OWS media team will speak after the screening.
